Alternate Name(s): Moritz Siegfried Viener (legal name)

Biography: Moritz Siegfried Viener was born around 1794, the son of Siegfried Viener and his wife Esther. His early life cannot be traced, but in all likelihood he came from a German-Jewish family and may have been born in Germany. By 1825, he lived in London where he married Mary Ann Banyard. The couple had a son, Adolph Moritz Viener. With his brother, Viener ran an importing company in Southamption, probably specializing in jewelry. He found time to write two novels. After his wife died, he married her sister Jane Banyard in 1829. In 1851, he converted to the Church of England. He died on 17 May 1857 in Southampton.
