Author: William Gayer Starbuck (1830–1865)

Biography: William Gayer Starbuck was born on 6 November 1830 in Milford, Pembrokeshire, the son of merchant Gayer Starbuck of Priory Lodge. He descended from a long line of Quakers. He followed his father into business, his occupation in the 1861 census listed as "brewer, employing 6 men, coal & corn merchant, consular & shipping agent, proprietor of houses, partner in coal mine." In his spare time, he wrote two long poems based on Welsh history and two novels. He died suddenly of typhoid on 28 October 1865 in Milford. His obituary adds he supported the local mechanics' institute and other educational endeavors.
