Biography: Mary Thompson was born in December 1847 in Croft, Yorkshire, the daughter of farmer Humphrey Thompson (1806–1881) and his wife Mary Lascelles. As a teen, she contributed articles to local newspapers leading up to a novel Robert Forrester (1877). After a visit to Italy, she wrote a second novel Under Sunny Skies (1883). She emigrated to the United States in the 1880s where she met journalist George P. Hasbrouck. They married but he died in December 1893. She continued to live in the United States as a journalist. She was living in 1900, but thereafter cannot be traced.
