Author: Alfred Clark (1853–1916)

Biography: Alfred Allen Clark was born on 8 September 1853 in Palayankottai, India, the son of missionary William Clark and his wife Mary Anne. After an education in England, he returned to Sri Lanka as a forester, later rising to conservator. in 1887, he married Emily Stuart MacCarthy and the couple had several children. In addtion to works on Ceylon, he wrote several novels. After his wife's death, he remarried to Jessie Batten in 1910. He died on 21 April 1916 in Beckenham.
