Author: Sarah Crompton (1802–1881)

Biography: Sarah Crompton was born on 10 September 1802 in Sutton Coldfield, the daughter of merchant John William Crompton and his wife Martha. She was sister of the surgeon D. W. Crompton and sister-in-law of the minister George Dawson. Under his ministry, she became active in the Sunday and evening schools. This led to her literary work writing books useful for the intruction of children and illiterate adults. In addition, she wrote a few novels. She died in 1881 in Kings Norton.
