Biography: Lucy M. Hill was born in 1865 in London, the daughter of noted Johnson scholar George Birkbeck Norman Hill and his wife Annie Scott. As a young woman, she wrote the novel A Mother's Idol (1882) under the pseudonym "Lydia Hope" and followed with another novel under her legal name. In 1890, she married Charles George Crump and the couple had several children. After the death of her father in 1903 she edited a collection of his letters. She died in 1946.
