Author: James Walker Hay (1834–1880)

Biography: James Walker Hay was born in 1834 in Huntly, Scotland, the son of William Hay and his wife Margaret Leith Donald. He trained as an attorney in Aberdeen before emigrating with his widowed mother to Melbourne, Australia in 1857. While there, he worked for an assurance company and wrote the single novel Mysie's Pardon (1873) which was first serialized in the Leader. He married Catherine Horne and the couple had several children. Hay died at age 45 on 23 March 1880 in Emerald Hill, Melbourne.
