Author: William Duthie (birth and death dates unknown)

Biography: William Duthie was born in London to working class parents. He apprenticed as a goldsmith and studied at the Mechanics' Institute. After he lost his job, he worked in Hamburg for several years and travelled around Europe. When he returned to London, he began contributing to Household Words and other periodicals. His travel pieces were collected as A Tramp's Wallet (1858), which was dedicated to Charles Dickens. In addition, he published a poetry collection and two works of fiction. After 1870, he cannot be traced.
