Author: Thomas Rowland Skemp (1850–1910)

Biography: Thomas Rowland Skemp was born on 25 December 1850 in Bilston, the son of Baptist minister Thomas Skemp. He spent his early days working in the cotton industry, but at same time exercised his literary interests beginning with the novel The D'Eyncourts of Fairleigh (1872). He would go on to publish a few more novels as well as journalism. In 1882, he left business to be ordained as a Unitarian minister serving the communities of Douglas and Ramsgate. Poor health hampered his ministry and he spent two years in Sydney for his health. On his return, he was a minister in Southampton. After a long and painful illness, he died on 10 May 1910 in Southampton. He left a widow and three adult children.
