Biography: Harriet Woodward was born on 23 March 1839 in Cullompton, the daughter of solicitor Robert Burrow and his wife Ann. At age eighteen, she married widowed army officer Richard Woodward, a man nearly thirty years her senior. In addition to his existing children, they had one daughter, Alice. The couple moved around a bit, living in Northumbria, Yorkshire, and London. During her married life, Woodward wrote fiction, some of which was serialized in religious magazines, ultimately publishing six novels. Her husband died in 1887 at the Royal India Asylum, suggesting he suffered from mental illness in his later years. Thereafter she lived with relatives. She died on 10 August 1911 in London.
