Biography: Elizabeth Proby was born in 1825, the only child of Admiral Edward Chappell (died 1861) and his wife Elizabeth Wood (died 1842). In 1853, she married Charles John Proby, the son of the Rev. Charles James Proby, Canon of Windsor. The couple had a son and a daughter. Her husband served as the British Consul to Florence where he died in 1868. Proby wrote just the single novel, The Dennes of Daundelyonn (1859). She died on 6 March 1891 in Rome.
