Alternate Name(s): Cave (married name)

Biography: Bessie Curzon Austin was born in 1829 in Biggleswade, the daughter of solicitor George Austin. From a young age she worked as a governess for families in Hampshire, Herefordshire, and Warwickshire (as chronicled by the censuses). In addition to her duties, she penned the novel Landmarks of a Life (1867) which failed to catch the attention of the public. Late in life, she married solicitor Edward Lashford Cave in 1878 (he was her junior by about fifteen years). The couple lived in Bromyard. Austin died suddenly on 15 July 1894 in Amphey Crucis.
