Biography: Sophia Frances Ann Caulfeild was born on 19 January 1824 in Teignmouth, the daughter of naval officer Edwin Toby Caulfeild and poet Frances Sally Irwin. Through her father she was connected to the Viscount Charlemont. As a young woman she spent several years on the continent at Pisa and Lucerne. Caulfeild published an anonymous collection of poems (1865) and wrote a novel Hope Deferred (1865) under the pseudonym "Sybil." Later in life, she co-wrote the Dictionary of Needlework (1882). She never married and died on 20 November 1911 in London.
