Biography: Anne Jane Davies was born around 1830 in Liverpool, the daughter of wool merchant David Davies. She spent the majority of her life in Liverpool with extended periods at her father's country house in Llangollen. In middle age, she devoted herself to education and philanthropy, working for several schools, temperance associations, and anti-cruelty societies (both animals and children). Late in life she was elected to the Liverpool School Board. Amongst her other activities, she found time to write a novel Oh Where, and Oh Where?
