Author: Edward Whitaker (1833–1922)
Biography: Edward Whitaker was born on 11 March 1833 in Frome, the son of solicitor Alfred Whitaker and his wife Catherine. As a young man he joined the civil service and worked as a clerk in the registration office eventually rising to chief clerk. In addition to his employment, he wrote articles for various periodicals and wrote two novels beginning with the anonymous Lucy Fitzadam (1872). He married and had several children. After suffering failiing health for some time, Whitaker died on 1 January 1922 in Bideford. Note: Identified in the Smith, Elder accounts.
