Biography: Francis Elmond Dracey Garth Thornton was born on 25 July 1849 in Bishop Auckland, the son of Thomas Thornton and his wife Margaret. He worked as a journalist and editor for several newspapers including the Sheffield Daily Telegraph. In 1876, he married Mary Jane Mille and the couple had three children. Thornton wrote the single novel, For Love and Duty (1884). He died on 28 January 1909 in Kensington.
