Biography: Marian Wilton was born in 1843 in Dawlish, Devon, the daughter of Henry Milnes and Vittoria Wilton. She married her cousin Frederick Wilton, a solicitor. The couple lived in Gloucester and had six children. Her husband died in 1878 and the family removed to Cheltenham where Wilton wrote her novel Noel Vanstone (1882) which achieved some modest local fame. The following year she married Jean Baptiste Eugene, Baron Solignac (1804–1894), one-time Grand Chamberlain to Napolean III. The second marriage produced a son who died in 1906. She lived the remainer of her life in Barnwood where she died 1 January 1930.
