Author: Edwin Keene (1826–1857)

Biography: Edwin Keene was born in 1826 in Bath, the youngest son of printer John Keene. According to his obituary, "His life was one of ceaseless delight in literary pursuits, and in the acquisition of knowledge, expecially of music, in which he attained considerable proficiency. He endured with Christian patience and resignation a long and severe illness, which terminated a life of unwearied perseverance and undeviating integrity of principle." Keene wrote the novel Sydney Fielding, published the year of his death, as well as contributions to London and Edinburgh periodicals. He died on 21 September 1857 in Bath. Sadly, his young wife Laura passed away ten weeks later.
