Biography: Ellen Mary Davy was born about 1837 in Newcastle, the daughter of tobacco manufacturer John Harvey and his wife Margaret Partridge. In 1865, she married her father's junior partner Herbert Davy. For thirty-five years he served as a vice-consul for the United States in Newcastle. As a married woman, she contributed to periodicals and newspapers including Belgravia, London Society, and Newcastle Weekly Chronicle. In addition, she wrote several novels, including one under the pseudonym "John Audley." After the death of her husband, she moved to London. Davy died on 25 February 1913 in London. At her death, she left a small fortune.
