Author: Thomas Kingston Clarke (1862–1941)
Biography: Thomas Kingston Clarke was born on 21 June 1862 in Nantwich, the son of confectioner John Clarke. He followed his father in business as a cake and biscuit manufacturer in Altrincham. He recieved the Royal Humane Society's Certificate for life-saving (1895), served as mayor of Altrincham (1924–1925), and took an active part in the social, political, and religious life of his town. In 1883, he married Elizabeth Kingston. A "great lover and student of Manxland" he lived on the island and wrote about it. In addition, he wrote two novels, Men v. Devils (1901) about the stock market and The Widda-Man (1907) set on the Isle of Man. He died in December 1941 on the Isle of Man.
