Biography: Florence Moore was born in 1857 in Wakefield, the third daughter of clergyman Francis Wellington Moore and Georgiana Blanche Kelby. She grew up in Duffield where her father was the vicar. In her thirties she turned to fiction, mostly writing novels aimed at a young adult readership. In 1906, she married Major-General William Lewis Devenish-Meares. Unfortunately, he died about a year later. She lived another twenty years, dying on 15 February 1928 in Kirk Ireton.
