Author: George Henry Roqué Dabbs (1846–1913)

Biography: George Henry Roqué Dabbs was born on 3 January 1846 in Southsea, the son of a naval surgeon and a Basque lady. He attended the Royal Naval School before studying at King's College Hospital, London. Thereafter, he set up a medical practice on the Isle of Wight. His most notable patient was the poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson and the two became close friends. Dabbs also turned to literature, writing poetry, fiction, and plays. For a time, he edited his own magazine Vectis. In 1879, he married Nina Laura Peet (née Giraud). He died on 10 June 1913 in London.
