Author: Richard Locke Johnson (1832–1882)

Biography: Richard Locke Johnson was born around 1832 in Ireland. His early life cannot be traced. He seems to have devoted himself to developing gas works, including being awarded a few patents. However, by the 1860s, he was qualified as a surgeon and moved to London to practice. While there, he published two books, the anonymous Queer Customers (1866) and the novel Brilliant Prospects (1870). The latter earned a scathing review from the Spectator. In 1873, he married Caroline Annie Kearney. He died on 17 August 1882 in London.
