Author: Caroline Mary Elizabeth Amherst (1822–1879)
Biography: Caroline Amherst was born about 1822 in London, the daughter of William Kerril Amherst and his wife Mary Louisa (née Turville). Her older brother was the novelist Francis Kerril Amherst. In middle age she wrote three anonymous novels beginning with Clare Maitland (1856). Much of her life cannot be traced. Her authorship was only revealed several decades after her death. Amherst died on 1 January 1879 in Kenilworth.
