Author: Thomas Hirst (1789–1870)

Biography: Thomas Hirst was born in 1789 in Knottingley, Yorkshire, the son of Thomas Hirst. An ardent Methodist, he lived in Kimberley, Nottinghamshire where he was instrumental in founding an infant school, supporting Sunday schools, and promoting cottage gardens. In later years, he became a preacher. He also wrote a number of works including a collection of poems, a hymnal, and one novel. He died on 30 June 1870 in Kimberley.
