Author: Christopher Manus O'Keeffe (1826–1891)

Biography: Christopher Manus O'Keeffe was born about 1826 in Ireland. As a journalist, he worked for the Irishman in the 1860s. O'Keeffe was among the group of Fenians who were tried and sentenced to penal servitude in 1867. After his ten-year sentence, he emigrated to New York where he continued to contribute to the press, including the Irish World, Catholic World, and Celtic Monthly. In addition, he wrote a biography of O'Connell and the historical novel The Knights of the Pale (1870). He died on 27 May 1891 in Brooklyn.
