Biography: Eliza Mumford was born in 1818 in Hayes, Kent, the daughter of postmaster and stationer William Mumford and his wife Sarah. She lived in Bromley where she served as a Sunday school teacher, first for a Congregational chapel then the Methodists. She later turned her hand to fiction, writing under the pseudonyms "Lillie" or "Lillie Montford." She never married and died on 3 February 1884 in Bromley.
