Biography: Cecilia M. Blake was born on 17 October 1824 in Perth, the eldest daughter of grocer Thomas Whittet. In 1851, she married minister John C. Blake and the couple had eight children. During her married life she wrote three works of fiction beginning with Glenrora (1864). As a widow in the 1870s, she taught in a school. She died in 1904 in Dunbarney.
