Author: Charles Smith Cheltnam (1823–1912)
Biography: Charles Smith Cheltnam was born around 1823 in London. For a time, he was an engraver on wood before becoming a journalist and dramatist. As the former, he contributed poems to Punch; as the latter, he dramatized novels by Braddon. In 1849, he married Jacintha Shelley Hunt, the youngest daughter of Leigh Hunt. A longtime resident of Hammersmith he was an ardent Liberal Unionist in his politics. Cheltnam died after contracting a cold on 17 April 1912 in Shepherd's Bush.
