Author: Augusta Caroline Hayward (1833–1877)

Biography: Augusta Caroline Hayward was born 3 November 1833 in Avening, Gloucestershire, the daughter of clergyman George Christopher Hayward. As a young woman, she contributed poetry and fiction to several magazines including the Monthly Packet and the Churchman's Shilling Magazine. Only one of her works appeared as a volume, published anonymously. She never married and lived with her widowed mother and sisters. In 1874, she traveled to South Africa to work as a teacher at the Springvale Mission Station. A few years later, she fell ill and died on 26 February 1877 in Natal.
