Author: Lizzie Selina Eden (1826–1899)

Biography: Lizzie [Elizabeth] Selina Eden was born on 8 April 1826 in Bekesbourne, Kent, the eldest daughter of clergyman the Hon. William Eden and his wife Anna Maria (nèe Kelham). She had aristocratic connections: her father was the son of the first Baron Henley and her mother was first married to the 19th Lord Grey de Ruthyn (even after her second marriage, she styled herself Lady Grey de Ruthyn). Notably, her parents were friends with Lady Byron, widow of the poet. Eden wrote two travel books on Bohemia (1867) and Austria (1869) before writing a collection of fairy tales in 1870. She never married and died on 20 August 1899 in Plomesgate.
