Biography: Eliza Mary Hammond Hills was born in 1846 in Canterbury, the daughter of craftsman Hammond Hills and his wife Eliza (née Stupples). From a young age, she turned to literature publishing poems and journalism before turning to the stage as a lecturer and actress. On the publication of her only novel, The Cloister and the Beacon (1886), she disclaimed her pseudonym "Eliza Vaughan." She is found in the 1911 census living alone in Kensington and thereafter she cannot be traced.
