Biography: William Medland was born about 1832 in St. Neots, the eldest son of banker William Medland. He attended Christ Collge, Cambridge (B.A. 1859) before being ordained. He served in parishes in Newchurch and Newbury. In 1863, he married Louisa Frances Golding and the couple had five children. In addition to his parish duties, Medland wrote the popular novel Lame Annie (1865) under the pseudonym "A Clergyman." He died suddenly due to complications from a surgery on 23 November 1871 in Newbury. An obituary revealed his authorship.
