Biography: Charlotte Lankester was born on 28 March 1841 in Bury St. Edmunds, the daughter of bookseller Frederick Lankester. Her father died when she was young and she worked briefly as a governess for a London family. At that time, she wrote two novels for Routledge. In 1864, she married wine merchant Arthur Hunter and the couple had six children including designer Edmund Hunter (1866–1937). She lived her remaining life in Bury where her husband served a term as mayor. In the twentieth century, she wrote one further novel, In a Country Town (1905). She died on 3 November 1913 in Bury.
