Author: David Macrae (1837–1907)

Biography: David Macrae was born on 9 August 1837 in Lathones. He studied for the ministry at Edinburgh University. While there he suffered a serious fall on Arthur's Seat which lamed him. In addition to this his studies, he began writing for the press and went on to publish several works of fiction. As a minister, Macrae was very popular but his theological views put him at odd with his superiors. He traveled widely, visiting the United States, Egypt, and the Holy Land. In 1875, Macrae married Williamina Burton Craig but the couple had no children. After a long illness, he died on 16 May 1907 in Pollokshields.
