Biography: Anna Shipton was born in 1815 in Evesham, Worcestershire, the daughter of solicitor Edward Savage and his wife Emma Harrison. Her first publication came in 1829 when she was fourteen years old and she went on to be a prolific poet and religious author of biographies, hymns, leaflets, and tracts. In addition, a few works can be classified as fiction. In 1848, she married Joseph Shipton but the couple separated a few years later due to his infidelity. She lived for a time on the continent before settling at St. Leonards-on-Sea. She died there after a long illness on 5 November 1901.
