Author: James Alexander Mowatt (1834–1876)

Biography: James Alexander Mowatt was born on 4 March 1834 in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim. As a member of the Irish press, he worked as a reporter and editor. Later, he was the manager of the Irish branch of the General Exchange Bank. As a lecturer and writer, he focused on national issues and temperance. In the 1870s, Mowatt moved to the United States to edit The Commonwealth. The early death of his only daughter affected his health and he died of pneumonia on 11 March 1876 in New Haven, Connecticut. He left a widow and son.
