Author: Mary Seeley (1829–1918)
Biography: Mary Seeley was born in 1829 in London, the eldest child of publisher Robert Benton Seeley and his wife Mary Ann. She grew up in a cultured household and became an educator and writer. Several of her siblings were writers: Leonard Benton Seeley, Sir John Robert Seeley, Edith Seeley, Elizabeth Phebe Seeley, and Emma Louisa Seeley. She conducted a ladies' school in Tonbridge with her sister Harriet for a decade before dedicating herself to writing religious history books. In addition, she wrote some fiction. She never married and died on 22 February 1918 in Reigate.
