Author: George Roy (1821–1898)

Biography: George Roy was born in 1821 in Aberdeen. As a child he moved to Glasgow where in partnership with his elder brother he carried on as a wholesale provision merchant. He sold out, invested in property, and made a small fortune. As a "platform orator," Roy became famous throughout Scotland, mostly to raise funds for various charities. His published fiction formed the basis of his performances. He never married and died in 1898 in Glasgow.
