Biography: Margaret Fraser Barbour was born on 24 March 1823 in Perth, the only daughter of Glas Sandeman and his wife Margaret Fraser Stewart. In 1845, she married land owner George Freeland Barbour of Bonskeid and Gryffe Castle and the couple would have five children. During her married life, Barbour wrote three novels and a memoir of her mother. She died on 5 February 1892 in Edinburgh.
