Author: Margaret Doake
Author: Margaret Doake (1839–1923)
Biography: Margaret Doake was born on 5 February 1839 in Dromara, the daughter of Samuel Doake and Mary Baxter. She seems to have lived a retired life. In 1880, her manuscript won a £60 prize for best novel written by an amateur author by the Literary Production Committee. Her novel May Darling was subsequently published but its reception does not seem to have inspired her further. Busy in her community, she was known for her "kind and charitable qualities." She never married and died after a period of failing health on 1 November 1923 in Dromara.
