Author: James Burnley (1838–1919)

Biography: James Burnley was born in 1838 in Shipley, Yorkshire. After leaving school, he worked for a time in a solicitor's office in Bradford. While there, his first poems appeared in Once a Week and collection followed in 1869. In 1871, he joined the staff of the Bradford Observer where he wrote his first novel Looking for the Dawn (1874). The next year, he founded his own newspaper The Yorkshireman. A true man of letters, he also wrote three plays, pantomimes, a history of the wool comb, and another novel. He died on 29 December 1919 in Chesham.
