Author: Helen Mary Dickinson (1850–1937)
Biography: Helen Mary Dickinson was born in 1850 in Sydney, Australia, the daughter of judge Sir John Nodes Dickinson and his wife Helen Jauncey. Her father retired in 1861 with a large pension and the family returned to England. As a young woman, Dickinson wrote two novels, the first anonymously and the second a historical novel under her own name. Her father died while they were on a trip to Rome in 1882. Thereafter, she lived in Torquay. She never married and died on 24 April 1937 in Torquay. She left a fortune in excess of £36,000, most of which went to charity.
