Author: Charlotte Elizabeth Stern (1851–1900)

Biography: Charlotte Elizabeth Stern was born about 1851 in Baghdad (then part of the Ottoman Empire), the daugher of Anglican missionary Henry Aaron Stern. Her father was a convert from Judaism and was a missionary to the Middle East then Abyssinia. In the latter place, he was held captive and tortured by the Ethiopian emperor. In England after 1861, Stern lived in the London area and turned her hand to fiction, both works concerning Jewish characters. She lived with her family and later in life became the superintendent of a school in Lambeth. She never married and died in 1900 in London.
