Author: Thomas Lloyd Fowle (1828–1896)
Biography: Thomas Lloyd Fowle was born in 1828 in Amesbury, the son of clergyman Fulwar William Fowle. He attended the University of Giessen where he earned a doctorate in music. Fowle taught music in several places around Great Britain as well as writing music and hymns. In addition to works on music, he wrote the novel Gentle Edith (1879). He recounts the publication of the novel by the Charing Cross Publishing company in a letter to Truth: after paying £75 towards publication, he never even received his promised copies. In his later years, he lived in Hampshire. He twice married and died on 6 July 1896 in Ryde.
