Biography: Ellen Emma Guthrie was born on 2 November 1832 in Glasgow, the daughter of house proprietor Alexander Guthrie. From a young age, she pursued literature with Scottish-themed fiction, history, and poetry. Notably, her collection Tales, Legends, and Historical Reminiscences of the Scottish Covenanters (1861) was well received. She must have spend some time in London since she also wrote the anonymous The Old Houses of Putney (1870). She never married and died suddenly after a short illness on 26 March 1911 in Bridge of Earn.
