Author: Sophia Magdelina Holworthy (1820–1903)
Biography: Sophia Magdelina Holworthy was born in 1820 in Croxall, the daughter of Samuel Holworthy and his wife Diana Sarah. In middle age she turned to writing, producing devotional works (1870), collections of poetry (1856, 1878), and travel (1885) as well as one novel Scylla and Charybdis: or, Lilian Lane (1876). Holworthy was independently wealthy and the censuses show her living in various places around England, often visiting her family. She never married and died on 28 January 1903 in Bexhill-on-Sea. At her death, her considerable fortune was divided amongst her relatives. Note: several sources erroneously give her middle name as "Matilda."
