Author: Mary Anna Lewis (1849–1915)

Biography: Mary Anna Lewis was born in 1849 in Surrey, the daughter of the Rev. Sir Gilbert Frankland Lewis of Harpton Court and Jane Antrobus. By her thirtieth birthday, she had commenced on literary life by contributing to Macmillan's Magazine and leading the Browning Society. She wrote a children's book A Rat with Three Tales (1876), one novel Two Pretty Girls (1881), and other nonfiction works. She never married and died in 1915.
