Biography: Emily Mary Bryant was born in 1868 in Alford, Lincolnshire, the daughter of draper Joseph Bryant and his wife Sarah (née Casterton). As a young woman, she wrote several novels aimed at young adult readers. In addition, she wrote a few works about her native Lincolnshire. In 1904, she married bank officer John Henry Grant. She died in 1949 in Crawley.
