Biography: Hannah Brown Mackenzie was born in 1862 in Hamilton, Scotland, the daughter of John Mackenzie and his wife Georgina Agnes (née Brown). Through her mother she was descended from the Rev. John Brown. Her family lived briefly in the United States during her childhood. As a youth, Mackenzie contributed poems to several newspapers and magazines and worked as a reviewer for the Glasgow Herald. She wrote several works of fiction, including serials for the People's Friend. She married Alexander Welsh. She died on 15 July 1906.
